Winter Festival on the Danube Event Photos and Thank Yous

Our most recent Language of Food event, Winter Festival on the Danube, was a grand success, and our best attended event to date! We’d like to take a moment to thank all of the people who made the evening it possible, starting with you, our guests! Thank you! You are the heart of what we do and we appreciate your active participation in fostering cross-cultural understanding!

Our sincere thanks go out to the staff and volunteers who lovingly decorated the Cultural Center and made the entire evening run smoothly.  Their efforts filled our hall with warmth and holiday cheer. Thank you!

Thanks too to Chefs Robert Wittmann, Janos Toldi, and Inge Roberts, whose delicious creations – from the fabulous apple strudel demonstrated by Chef Wittmann, to Inge’s Weihnachtsplatzchen to Chef Toldi’s goulacs – sparked our imagination and warmed our bellies.

We’d also like to thank the Kisbetyarok Family Dance Group and the Foras Band,  whose lively music and dance transported us to the shores of the Danube.  Watching the older dancers pass on these traditional dances to their children brought a real sense of inter-generational Hungarian village life to the event!

Our sincere gratitude goes out to Dean and Susan Paton for the wonderful ballroom dance demonstration, and Gloria Ferry-Brennan, Talia Marcus, and Eileen Soskin for their beautiful accompaniment.  The sense of continuity they demonstrated between village traditions and Vienna’s classical composers was a beautiful reminder of how much culture is shared.

Last but not least, very special thanks to Hungarian Honorary Consul Anna Palinko, the Hungarian American Association of Washington, the Austrian-American Council, and to Puget Sound Energy and the REC Music Foundation for their generous support! We could not have done it without you!
