Save the Date! Celebrate Brazil at NWLA!
For the season of Carnival, NWLA invites you to join us in celebrating the culture of Brazil with a week’s-worth of activities and events from the “Land of Parrots.” Culminating with the February 16th dinner and music event, the week starting Feb. 11th will see workshops in Capoeira (Brazilian martial arts) with Silvio Aleixo dos Reis of ICAF Seattle, Portugese language, Brazilian cooking, and the native medicines of the Amazon with Drs. Steve and Aaron Morris. Stay tuned for more details on these and other events during the week!
On the 16th, join us for the crowing event of the week: a feast prepared by a local Brazilian chef, followed by a spectacular of music and dance. NWLA is honored to be joined for this event by Eduardo Mendonça, Brazilian recording artist, vocalist, composer, percussionist, guitarist, and musical arranger from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, and members of ShowBrazil! Mendonça traces his lineage to a royal African family bearing the hereditary title of Mama-beka (“prophet of the royal court”) and has performed in many venues in Bahia – Brazil, including performances for Brazilian President João Baptista Figueiredo, Pope John Paul II, the Dalai Lama, and former South Africa President Nelson Mandela. For this NWLA event, he is putting together a special performance with family and friends, that will bring Brazilian culture alive for our community. Reserve early – seating is limited, and this special event is certain to sell out!
Overnight accommodations are available – come and enjoy this special event over several days!
The event will be held at the Northwest Language and Cultural Center located at 5023 Langley Rd, Langley WA 98260 – where Maxwelton Rd meets Langley Rd. For more details, call NWLA at 360-321-2101 or email [email protected]
