Elementary Global Cultures Experience

In September 2016, NWLACC launched its first Global Cultures Experience for South Whidbey Elementary Students. Eighty Kindergarten students and 35 parent volunteers came to our campus to engage with Japanese Culture on 3 consecutive Thursdays. They explored Japanese food, music, art, stories, games and Aikido together with native presenters who enthusiastically shared their culture. The success of the Program encouraged us to continue developing, organizing and expanding the Global Cultures Experience. January 19- February 9, 2017 the Kindergarten students will explore Chinese culture . In April and May 2017 the students will experience the Japanese culture.

The program provides a foundation for world language learning, improves cultural competencies, and increases tolerance and empathy in an environment where students have little primary exposure to cultural diversity. The children come out of the program having developed a lifelong appreciation for our common humanity and a commitment to global peace and understanding, preparing our future leaders for success in a rapidly changing, globalized world.
