(Optional Potluck starts at 6:00 p.m.)

December 12, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Because it’s the holiday season we’re adding a Potluck at 6 p.m. for those who want to join in. Please bring your own plate, cup & cutlery.

Our topic will be: How do our values and our faith drive our actions? How do we walk the talk, practice what we preach here on the island?  How do we manifest our relationship to Sacred?

Four community members have agreed to offer 5 – 7 minute MiniTED talks to get us thinking, and what an exemplary set of people who we love, depend on and admire:
Drew Kampion of Drewslist, our community networker and town crier
Faith Wlider who is passionately dedicated to ending homelessness on Whidbey
David & Cynthia Trowbridge, who have leased a house on their 20-acres to Enso House (care for people in their last days) for 1000 years.

Join this conversation about what inspires – or should inspire – action. There are no right answers! There’s only knowing one another and ourselves better through thinking out loud… together. Also, there are no experts. There’s only us.

In anticipation, here is a well-known verse from Corintians 13. With an adaptation. KNOW MY TRUE DESIRE has been substituted for the word LOVE to underscore that the translation requires something more than this word, which we now use to describe our relationship to our dogs, our cell phones, the gravy on the turkey, and the color of a neighbor’s shoes. In the etymology – going back to Indo-European roots – luba, lubido … “desire” is closer, in the sense of what our entire being is drawn to with the fullness of our everything … inside … what we really want. What we long for!

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not know my true desire,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not know my true desire,
I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not know my true desire,
I gain nothing

There is no charge but donations gratefully accepted to cover expenses.
Please RSVP so we can set up and buy refreshments appropriately.

With love & appreciation ~
